Italian Serie A side Atalanta must beat Dinamo Zagreb at the San Siro stadium on Tuesday if they are to remain in this season’s Champions League.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side start the penultimate round of fixtures four points below both Dinamo and Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian side are in action away to Manchester City this week.
Victory for Atalanta would pull them within one point of their Croatia opponents and realistically within one point of Shakhtar, provided they don’t get anything in Manchester.
The Italian side then go to the Ukrainian side in their final group stage game in two weeks’ time.
Although they only have one point from their opening four games, and were hammered 4-0 in Croatia in their first-ever Champions League game, I feel they have gained valuable experience along the way.
Domestically, they are performing very well as they sit in the top six after 13 games.
I feel the home side will be too much for the visitors to the San Siro midweek and pick up the vital three points to keep them in contention of European football in the New Year.
