Atalanta meet Valencia in one of the lower key 2019-20 Champions League Second Round ties. The Italian side will play host in the first leg at the San Siro on Wednesday.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are one of the most exciting this season; top scorers in Serie A and winning their last two group games to progress to the last 16.
Valencia had to pull off a surprise win away to Ajax in their final group game to progress this far, at the expense of last season’s semi-finalists.
Despite an impressive group stage, Albert Celades’ side have been inconsistent domestically. They’ve won three of their last eight in La Liga, which includes a 3-0 thrashing at Getafe less than a fortnight ago and a tough 2-2 draw at home to Atletico Madrid this past weekend.
This is a match between two sides that like to attack but don’t defend so well. On paper, I believe Atalanta have the better attack and better matchup. The bookmakers agree, making the home side as short as 1.78 for the first leg – the only side in this week’s four matchups to be odds on pre-kickoff.
Josip Ilicic, Papu Gomez, Duvan Zapata, Luis Muriel and co should simply be too much in attack for the Spanish side to keep quiet for 90 minutes. Not only do I not expect them to keep a clean sheet but I am very confident in Atalanta scoring at least two this week.
Best bet: Atalanta to win is 1.79 with Betfair
