Chelsea host German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich just three days after their 2-1 London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Frank Lampard’s side looked comfortable against their rivals prior to conceding a late goal which made for a nervy ending.
Bayern Munich themselves weren’t so convincing on Friday night, only beating Paderborn 3-2 via Robert Lewandowski’s 88th minute winner.
However, Hansi Flick’s side have now won eight of their last nine in the league, with the latest win being the only one they didn’t win by at least two goals.
Meanwhile Chelsea have won just five of their last 15 in the Premier League, which includes 2-0 losses at home to both Southampton and Manchester United, 0-1 at home to Bournemouth and 0-1 away to Newcastle United.
I can’t help but think the German giants will comfortably have the beating of the Blues’ defence on Tuesday. Frank Lampard has failed to build a reliable defence at either Derby County or Chelsea, whilst Bayern Munich have the likes of Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Kinsgley Coman and Thomas Muller in attack.
On top of that, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich bombing forward from their full-back roles would cause additional problems for the hosts at Stamford Bridge.
The bookmakers tend to agree as Bayern Munich are the 1.86 favourites to win the first leg in West London. I was expecting odds to be a bit shorter to be honest.
Bayern Munich have already won 7-2 in London this season, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the group stage. I expect them to maintain their 100% winning record in this season’s competition and London this week.
