Defeat for either Lille or Chelsea on Wednesday night would leave them on the brink of elimination after only two games in this season’s Champions League.
Both sides were beaten in their opening game and face respective back-to-back matches against Ajax and Valencia after colliding with each other on Wednesday.
Lille were hammered 3-0 at Ajax in their opening game whilst the English Premier League side were beaten 1-0 at home by Valencia in Frank Lampard’s first Champions League match as a manager.
The Blues are the bookmakers favourites for this match and I have to agree with that. They look good going forward domestically and kept their first clean sheet of the season at the weekend.
Chelsea really took the game to Brighton & Hove Albion in beating them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Whilst they were widely-expected to win that game it was the manner that impressed me the most. They controlled the game, created numerous chances and protected Kepa very well between the posts.
Whilst I am not expecting a clean sheet for Lampard’s side on Wednesday night, I am expecting them to outscore the Ligue 1 side. Lille are unbeaten in their past four league games, but victories over Angers and Strasbourg were expected. Defeats at Amiens and Reims were not.
Best bet: Chelsea to win is 2.18 with Betfair
